Privacy Policy

What the Google Font ("WTGF", "we", "the site") is a free font identification tool operated by Tex Jernigan. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

1. Images You Upload

When you upload, paste, or provide a URL to an image, that image is:

Sent to Anthropic (Claude API) for analysis. Anthropic processes the image to identify font characteristics and detect any text visible in the image. Anthropic's use of this data is governed by their privacy policy.
Sent to our font matching server (hosted on Hetzner in Helsinki, Finland) to compare against our database of Google Fonts. The image is processed in memory and not stored on this server.
Stored in our database (Supabase) along with the analysis results. This allows shareable result links to work. Uploaded images are stored indefinitely unless you request deletion.

If our font matching server is unavailable, your image may also be sent to Replicate.com for CLIP embedding processing as a fallback.

2. What We Store

For each analysis, we store:

The uploaded image
Any text detected in the image
Font characteristics identified by the analysis
The list of matching fonts and similarity scores
A timestamp
Your IP address and a device fingerprint (a hash derived from browser properties like screen size and time zone) — used only to enforce fair-use limits on free searches and prevent abuse

Each analysis gets a unique URL that can be shared with anyone. If you share this URL, anyone with it can view the image and results.

3. Cookies & Authentication

If you log in as a member (to remove ads), a cookie called texs_auth is used to maintain your session. This cookie is shared across texs.org subdomains. We store your email address and a hashed authentication token.

We do not use cookies for tracking or analytics purposes.

4. Google AdSense

For non-authenticated users, we display ads via Google AdSense. Google may use cookies and collect data including your IP address, browser information, and browsing behavior to serve personalized ads. You can opt out of personalized advertising at Google Ad Settings.

5. Google Fonts

When viewing font results, font files are loaded directly from Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com). Google receives your IP address and browser information as part of these requests. See Google's privacy policy.

6. What We Don't Collect

We don't use analytics services (no Google Analytics, etc.)
We don't use tracking pixels or beacons
The only thing kept in your browser's local storage is a count of your free searches — nothing else
We don't sell or share your data with data brokers or marketing platforms

7. Third-Party Services

Your data may be processed by these services:

Anthropic — image analysis (Claude API)
Supabase — database and image storage
Google — font loading (Google Fonts) and advertising (AdSense)
Hetzner — font matching server hosting (Helsinki, Finland)
Vercel — website and API hosting
Replicate — image embedding fallback (only when font server is unavailable)

8. Data Retention & Deletion

Uploaded images and analysis results are stored indefinitely. To request deletion of your data, email tex@texs.org with the analysis URL or any identifying details.

9. Children's Privacy

This site is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
